Sports fishing Western Cape

Sportfish the most remote locations of the Cape York Peninsula, accessible only by mothership in comfort, style and security for a multitude of light tackle sport and fly species.

We specialize in Barra fishing charters with over 50 different species as by-catch!

Eclipse FNQ Charters operates fishing charters between March-November each year. The best time to come is anytime you can make it during these months! Traditionally there are two peak fishing periods per year, the “Run-off” (March-June) and the “Build-up” (September- early December). Note that Barra specific fishing takes place during the season which runs Feb-October each year.

It’s essential to note that specific regions within Queensland may have variations in the best time for barramundi fishing. Additionally, local weather conditions, tides, and moon phases can influence fishing success. Checking with local fishing guides, charter services, or experienced anglers in the area can provide valuable insights into the current fishing conditions and the ideal time to target barramundi in a particular location.

Weipa is the gateway to the Western Cape, Cape York. Weipa barramundi are great fighting fish and our guides, are all very experienced barra fishers. We know when, where and how to catch these renowned fighters.  And even better, your onboard chef knows just how to cook them as well.

Join onto one of our exclusive Saltwater Flyfishing charters casting to sighted fish of numerous species is the draw card for many but far from all the area has to offer.

The options for the day are endless – after breakfast you can head off to target that 1m+ Barra you’ve always wanted, then head offshore casting to schools of crashing pelagics. Come back for a leisurely lunch or soak up some of the motherships air conditioning. Then head back out and explore the many rivers and inshore flats or casting amongst mangrove shorelines and shallow areas catching Barramundi, Threadfin Salmon, Mangrove Jack etc.

What colour lures do barramundi like?

It’s essential to experiment with different colors and observe how barramundi respond to them in specific fishing conditions. Paying attention to factors like water clarity and light conditions can help determine which lure colors are most effective on any given day.

Whatever option suits you best, we’ll do our best to put you in the right spot.

All our guides are very professional and leaders in their field.
